Emergency Repair Program

The Emergency Repair Program uses Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to provide grants to lower income homeowners requiring emergency repairs for hazardous or life-threatening problems in their homes. Grants up to $4500 can address emergency repairs including plumbing, electrical, heating, or roofing. Work may also include renovations to improve accessibility to and within the unit.

Housing Rehabilitation Assistance

The Housing Rehabilitation Assistance program utilizes CDBG and HOME funds to provide grants to low income homeowners for the moderate to substantial renovation of their homes. There are three components of the Housing Rehabilitation Assistance program including small rehabilitation, large rehabilitation, and reconstruction. The type of financial assistance, repayment structure and the resale/recapture requirements are based on the household income and program component. Financial assistance is provided as a no-interest, deferred payment forgivable loan or a HOME reverse mortgage loan. The terms of loans range from 5-20 years depending upon the amount of financial assistance provided.

Applications for the Emergency Repair Program and the Homeowner Rehabilitation Program may be picked up at the Community Development Office, Simms Municipal Building, 808 S Buchanan St, Amarillo, TX, Monday through Friday, 8:00AM – 5:00PM.
