Supportive Housing

The Supportive Housing Program serves homeless individuals and families, primarily exiting emergency homeless shelters.  The program provides tenant based rental assistance and supportive services for a period of up to 24 months.

Through scattered-site tenant based housing, participants are afforded the opportunity to live independently in housing suitable to their individual needs.  The City of Amarillo’s Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program has adopted an admissions policy to allow participants exiting the transitional housing program at the end of the 24 month period to be admitted immediately to the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program if necessary to promote housing stability.

The City of Amarillo contracts with Downtown Women’s Center to carry out the supportive services activities for program participants which include case management, child care, food assistance, mental health services, employment assistance and job training, and transportation.
