Public Services

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program funds a number of public service projects in Amarillo. These projects are administered by the Community Development Department and are implemented by local non-profit agencies who apply to the City to receive CDBG Public Service funds. These partnerships between the City of Amarillo and the local non-profit service providers allow for a comprehensive approach to meeting public service needs in the community.

The CDBG regulations allow the use of grant funds for a wide range of public service activities, including, but not limited to:

  • Employment services (i.e. job training)
  • Crime prevention and public safety
  • Child care
  • Health services
  • Substance abuse services (i.e. counseling and treatment)
  • Fair housing counseling
  • Education programs
  • Energy conservation
  • Services for senior citizens
  • Services for homeless persons
  • Welfare services (excluding income payments)
  • Down payment assistance
  • Recreational services
